Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Thursday commissioned renovated and remodelled en suite family quarters for 12 military families at the Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ), Natsinta Army Barracks, Katsina.

The commissioning took place as the governor joined Christian communities in the barracks to mark the Christmas celebration.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda commended officers and men of the 17 Brigade for their role in safeguarding lives and property across the state, attributing the relative peace being enjoyed to the dedication and sacrifice of security personnel.

He said the achievements recorded in security were the result of a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between the state government and security agencies.

The governor also acknowledged the support of military families, noting that their encouragement and resilience were critical to the success of personnel deployed on active duty. He expressed condolences to the families of security operatives who lost their lives in the course of protecting citizens of the state.

As part of the Christmas celebration, Governor Radda announced a donation of ₦10 million to Christian families resident in the barracks.

Earlier, the Commander of 17 Brigade, Katsina, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, thanked the governor for funding the renovation and remodelling of the CBQ family quarters. He said the project was aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of troops and their families.

According to him, the intervention aligns with the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda under the Chief of Army Staff, which seeks to build a more professional, combat-ready and resilient force.

Brigadier General Omopariola described the governor’s presence at the Christmas celebration as a demonstration of his goodwill towards the military and Christian communities, and urged beneficiaries of the facility to maintain it responsibly.

After the commissioning, Governor Radda visited leaders of Christian communities in the state, who pledged to continue sensitising their members on the importance of cooperation with the state government.

Christian leaders also commended the governor for promoting inclusiveness and unity, irrespective of religious differences.

The event was attended by senior government officials, military officers, Christian community leaders and residents of the army barracks.
