The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has recorded significant improvements in school infrastructure across Daura, Mai’adua and Sandamu Local Government Areas following a comprehensive Day Two field assessment conducted by the Media Assistant to Governor Dikko Umar Radda.
The inspection, part of the ministry’s ongoing monitoring exercise, focused on the state of classrooms, laboratories, sanitation facilities, ICT resources, and ongoing projects funded by the state government, SUBEB/UBEC, TESS, and the World Bank–supported AGILE programme.
According to the ministry, the exercise aims to evaluate infrastructural conditions, identify priority areas for government action, verify the quality of learning environments, and strengthen collaboration with zonal education quality assurance officers. The findings will support policy decisions and reform initiatives led by Governor Radda.
DAURA LGA: Extensive Renovations and ICT Improvements
Several schools in Daura showed clear evidence of recent investments, including renovated classrooms, upgraded laboratories, improved water systems, and new sports facilities.
At GSSS Daura, 12 renovated classrooms, a multipurpose laboratory, new toilets, and a solar-powered ICT lab with 21 HP computers were observed. Similar improvements were recorded at GGJSS Daura, GPSS Daura, GJSS Ganga, GSSS Gurjiya, Family Support Daura, GSSS Kalgo-Gari, and GSS Suduji, where schools now have better classrooms, laboratories, sports courts, and solar-powered ICT systems.
SUBEB/UBEC, TESS, and AGILE projects also delivered new classroom blocks, renovations, and large-scale rehabilitations across primary schools in Daura, reducing overcrowding and enhancing learning resources.
MAI’ADUA LGA: New Constructions and Solar-Powered ICT Labs
The team reported major improvements funded by the state government, AGILE, and TESS.
At Government Model Secondary School Durmokul, still under construction, 15 classrooms, workshops, toilets, and a sports field have been completed. ICT labs powered by solar energy were verified in several schools including GSS Koza, GSS Kongolam, GSS Yandi, GSS Mai’adua, GSS Bumbum, and Government Commercial College Mai’adua.
Additional AGILE/TESS interventions were documented in Kagare Senior Secondary School, GSS Yardaje, GJASS Fago, GSSA Fago, GSSS Fago, GGSS Ragogo Masauka, and GPSS Tsadoji.
SANDAMU LGA: AGILE and TESS Deliver Critical Facilities
The assessment also confirmed progress in Sandamu, including classroom construction and renovations, provision of furniture, solar-powered water systems, VIP latrines, and office infrastructure at the LGEA headquarters. Schools such as K/Hubbi Special Primary School, Kanya PS, Hantsi PS, and K/Mahuta PS benefitted from the interventions.
Community stakeholders in Sandamu expressed readiness to support the government through self-help initiatives to maintain the facilities.
Strengthening Education Under Governor Radda
The Ministry stated that the assessment confirms “significant strides in upgrading educational infrastructure across the Daura Zone,” citing improvements in ICT, sanitation, sports facilities, science laboratories, and classroom expansion.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and conducive learning environments in line with the education reforms championed by Governor Radda and the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education.
The assessment continues across other zones of the state.
