Within just two years in office, the administration of His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has recorded remarkable achievements in transforming Basic and Secondary Education in Katsina State. This milestone was accomplished through the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa.

Revitalizing Secondary Education

As part of bold and strategic measures to revive the education sector, the Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the AGILE Project, renovated between 250 and 300 secondary schools across the state. In addition, 170 new Junior Secondary Schools were constructed to expand access to education for children in underserved areas. These schools were equipped with modern learning facilities including classroom furniture, solar power systems, boreholes for water supply, and generators in select locations. Sports infrastructure such as football and volleyball fields were also provided to promote extracurricular development, while students received essential learning support materials.

Strengthening Primary Education

At the primary education level, the government successfully renovated 150 primary schools across the state. Several of these schools benefited from the construction of hygienic toilets and provision of boreholes to enhance sanitation and access to clean water. These projects were implemented under the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in partnership with the Transforming Education at State Level (TESS) Project.

Introduction of Modern Smart Schools

In a forward-thinking initiative to promote inclusive and high-quality education, the Katsina State Government is currently constructing three modern Special Smart Schools—one in each of the three senatorial zones of the state. These institutions are designed to nurture gifted children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. Upon completion, they will enroll 996 students starting next month, Insha Allah.

Expanding Human Capital for Education

To improve the quality of teaching, the administration recruited approximately 7,000 new teachers across the state. Furthermore, about 18,000 teachers—out of a total of 35,000—have undergone various workshops, seminars, and capacity-building programmes aimed at equipping them with modern teaching techniques and technology-driven methodologies.

In line with this, just last two weeks, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Jobe, officially launched a step-down training programme for 18,000 teachers and distributed 20,000 digital tablets. This initiative is designed to enhance teaching efficiency and significantly improve educational outcomes statewide.

Commitment to Sustainable Education Reform

With these bold steps, the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has demonstrated unwavering commitment to ensuring quality education reforms. The administration’s vision is clear: to guarantee that every child in Katsina State, regardless of background, has access to functional, equitable, and high-quality education.

This reform agenda is both commendable and continuous, laying a solid foundation for the future of education in the state.
