In a significant move to bridge the digital divide, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), in collaboration with the Katsina State Directorate of Information and Communications Technology (KATDICT), has launched a digital skills training and empowerment programme targeting grassroots women across the state.
The initiative, flagged off by the Director General of KATDICT, Naufal Ahmad, empowered 100 women with essential digital literacy and brand-new smartphones to enhance their participation in the digital economy.
Speaking at the launch event, DG Naufal described the devices as “passports to opportunity, knowledge, and economic participation,” noting that access is the first step toward inclusion.
The beneficiaries were trained on smartphone use, online business tools, education technology, and digital solutions for everyday life. The programme prioritised rural women, reflecting Katsina State’s commitment to inclusive development and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s vision for grassroots empowerment.
“This programme is not just about giving out phones—it is about enabling women to take control of their futures through technology,” Naufal added.
The event attracted civil servants, community leaders, digital stakeholders, and programme participants. It ended with prayers for Governor Radda’s recovery following his recent accident, with attendees applauding his transformational leadership and dedication to building a smarter and more inclusive Katsina.
The partnership with the NCC underscores a shared national vision of digital inclusion, especially among underserved populations, and reinforces Katsina’s ambition to become a knowledge-based economy.
