NPC CHAIRMAN ADDRESSES STAKEHOLDERS ON REVISED NATIONAL MIGRATION POLICY

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, today, 29th April 2025, addressed stakeholders at the Technical Working Group Meeting for the validation of the Revised National Migration Policy 2025 and its Integrated Implementation Plan. The meeting took place at the Abuja Continental Hotel and underscored the critical need for a comprehensive policy framework to navigate the evolving landscape of migration in Nigeria.

Hon. Kwarra highlighted the NPC's essential role in the review process, emphasizing its expertise in population dynamics to enhance the demographic insights within the policy document. He commended the dedicated efforts of the Technical Working Group on Migration and Development, which is led by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Expressing optimism about future collaborations, Hon. Kwarra stated, "Together, we can ensure the effective implementation of this revised policy." He acknowledged the significant contributions of all stakeholders—including government agencies, NGOs, and international partners—toward enhancing migration management in Nigeria.

“Your commitments and dedication have greatly improved our approach to migration,” Hon. Kwarra said, emphasizing the collective effort to shape a better future for migrants in the country.

Among the dignitaries present at the event were the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu; the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed; and the Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration, Ms. Sharon Dimanche.

The National Migration Policy of Nigeria aims to manage migration effectively, enhance national development, safeguard migrant rights, and promote collaboration among state and non-state actors as well as international partners for sustainable migration governance.

As Nigeria moves forward with this revised policy, it reaffirms its commitment to establishing a robust migration management system that addresses both current and future challenges.
