President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood. The revered cleric died on Thursday at the age of 101.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Sheikh as a moral compass who devoted his life to teaching, preaching, and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The President noted that the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi is a monumental loss to his family, followers, and the nation as a whole. He recalled the spiritual support and blessings he received from the cleric during the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he advocated peace, piety, and unity. His death has created a huge void,” President Tinubu stated.

He extended condolences to the cleric’s followers within Nigeria and beyond, urging them to uphold his teachings by fostering unity, strengthening their relationship with God, and showing kindness to humanity.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, known for his vast Islamic scholarship and decades of spiritual leadership, remains one of Northern Nigeria’s most respected religious figures.
