The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to adopting technology-driven strategies to tackle evolving security challenges across the country.

Egbetokun made this known while receiving the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral J.O. Okosun, along with directing staff and Nigeria Police Force participants of Course 33 at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

The high-level visit brought together top military and police officials, including the Deputy Commandant of the NDC, Major General K.O. Ukandu, senior faculty members of the College, members of the Nigeria Police Force Management Team, and senior police officers. The visit featured the presentation of a research paper titled “Emerging Technologies and Internal Security: Strategic Options for the Nigeria Police Force by 2035,” delivered by police officers participating in Course 33 of the NDC.

Speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Okosun commended the IGP for the warm reception and described the presentation as timely and forward-looking. He said one of the NDC’s key objectives is to support participants in developing innovative approaches to national security concerns. He praised the police participants for choosing a topic focused on preparing the Force for future internal security threats, and he expressed hope for continued cooperation between the College and the NPF.

The research paper, presented on behalf of the Course 33 participants by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D.B. Lamba, laid out a strategic roadmap for integrating emerging technologies into the Nigeria Police Force by 2035. The document proposed a phased approach to reforming the Force through institutional, legal, infrastructural, and human capital development, with an emphasis on sustainability and operational efficiency.

In his response, IGP Egbetokun congratulated Rear Admiral Okosun on his appointment as NDC Commandant and praised the longstanding collaboration between the two institutions. He described the Course 33 presentation as a well-researched and progressive contribution to the national security discourse, stressing the importance of embracing innovation and technology to enhance the effectiveness of the Police Force.

The Inspector-General assured the delegation of the NPF’s commitment to implementing the strategies proposed in the research as part of its broader reform agenda, which seeks to modernize the Force and improve its responsiveness to emerging security threats.

The event underscored the growing emphasis on collaboration between the security services and academia in developing strategic responses to Nigeria’s complex internal security landscape.
