AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria has reaffirmed the country's commitment to restoring degraded landscapes and promoting sustainable ecosystem management during the 9th AFR100 Annual Partnership Meeting held in Nosy Be, Madagascar.
The meeting, themed "Accelerating Ecosystem Restoration in Africa: Uniting for Sustainable Financing and Scaling Up Successful Solutions," brought together government representatives, development partners, financial institutions and environmental experts from across the continent to advance Africa's landscape restoration agenda.
The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi, who represented Nigeria at the meeting, said the country remains committed to placing smallholder farmers at the centre of ecosystem restoration efforts.
He highlighted AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria's Innovative Strengthening of Smallholder Farmers Programme, which is being implemented in seven pilot states through partnerships with state governments, the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and counterpart funding.
According to him, the initiative demonstrates Nigeria's practical contribution towards achieving the goals of the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100), which seeks to restore degraded landscapes across the continent.
Abdullahi said the meeting also provided an opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen collaboration with African countries, exchange best practices and explore sustainable financing mechanisms for ecosystem restoration.
He reaffirmed AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria's commitment to promoting sustainable land restoration, food security, climate resilience and inclusive rural development as part of efforts to support environmental sustainability and economic growth across Africa.
