A Jos Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced two students, Kalifah Salisu and Auwal Nuru, both aged 19, to eight months imprisonment at a correctional centre for conspiracy and unlawful possession of daggers.
The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges filed against them by the police.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Hannatu Ashom sentenced the convicts to three months imprisonment each for conspiracy, with an option of a N100,000 fine. They were also given the option of paying a N30,000 fine or serving an additional five months imprisonment for possession of weapons.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the matter was reported on May 4 at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by Kabiru Sani, a member of a local vigilante group.
According to Gokwat, the suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol after they were found in possession of daggers.
He added that the offences contravened the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
