Sokoto Governor Commissions ₦12.6 Billion 8.1KM Yandaki–Shinkafi–Kofar Sauri Dual Carriageway

 We have constructed, rehabilitated, and upgraded over 200 kilometres of roads across Katsina State — Radda discloses


Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has commissioned the  8.1-kilometre Yandaki–Shinkafi–Kofar Sauri dual carriageway, executed under the Urban Renewal Programme at a cost of ₦12.6 billion by the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held on Friday, Governor Radda described the project as a major milestone in his administration’s ongoing drive to modernise infrastructure, improve urban mobility, and enhance the quality of life in Katsina State.

"This project represents our commitment to transforming Katsina into a modern city with efficient road networks that support economic growth and ease movement for our people," Governor Radda said.

He explained that the dual carriageway was designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, and strengthen connectivity across key high-traffic areas within Katsina metropolis. The project also includes the installation of solar-powered streetlights to improve night visibility, enhance safety, and promote energy efficiency.

"Beyond road construction, we are building a safer and more economically active environment where businesses can thrive and citizens can move freely at any time of the day," he added.

Governor Radda further disclosed that over 200 kilometres of roads have been constructed, rehabilitated, or upgraded across Katsina State since the inception of his administration.

He commended the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, led by Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, for its supervision, technical oversight, and quality assurance.

"I must appreciate the dedication of our Ministry of Works for ensuring this project meets the highest standards and is delivered on schedule," he stated.

The Governor also praised CCECC Nigeria Limited for executing the project in line with specifications, alongside consultants Royal UM KM for their technical input and support.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for serving as Special Guest of Honour and commissioning the project, describing his presence as a strong symbol of inter-state unity and cooperation.

"We are stronger when we work together as states. His Excellency’s presence reflects the spirit of collaboration we must continue to build upon," Governor Radda noted.

He urged residents of Yandaki, Shinkafi, Kofar Sauri, and the wider Katsina metropolis to safeguard public infrastructure for long-term use and sustainability.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto commended Governor Radda for the successful execution of the project, describing it as a significant achievement in Katsina State’s urban renewal drive.

He said the road reflects visionary leadership and regional cooperation, noting its importance to transportation, trade, and economic development.

“This road is a critical investment in infrastructure. It will improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and boost socio-economic activities within Katsina metropolis and beyond,” he said.

He added that such development projects strengthen unity and improve living standards, while commending Katsina State for its people-oriented initiatives.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, stated that the 8.1km dual carriageway was delivered under the Urban Renewal Programme at a cost of ₦12.6 billion.

He explained that the project was supervised by the Ministry with technical support from Royal UM KM and constructed in accordance with modern engineering standards.

According to him, the road will ease traffic flow, reduce travel time, improve safety, and stimulate economic activities across connected communities.

Mr. Jason Zhang Chairman of CCECC Nigeria Limited; said the project was successfully completed through strong collaboration with the state government, noting that it will enhance connectivity, support trade, strengthen urban expansion, and improve transport efficiency across the metropolis.

The event was attended by the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Dr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma; former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika; the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abdullahi Garba Faskari; the Head of Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; and the Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji.

Also present were members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, state lawmakers, the Emir of Daura, His Highness Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, representatives of Katsina Emirate, and other dignitaries.
