The Zamfara State Government has sponsored a mass wedding for 100 couples drawn from vulnerable groups across the state’s 14 local government areas.
Governor Dauda Lawal stated that the initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to supporting the less privileged and improving their welfare.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mani Mummune, the governor reaffirmed government’s resolve to uplift vulnerable citizens through targeted social interventions.
As part of the programme, the state government paid a dowry of N200,000 for each bride, while an additional N50,000 was provided to support small-scale businesses for the newlyweds.
The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Asha, represented the brides and formally gave them out in marriage during the ceremony.
The governor also presented marriage certificates and household items to the couples, urging them to live in peace, mutual respect and understanding.
He advised the couples to build harmonious homes capable of attracting divine blessings.
Katsina Times reports that senior government officials further donated N5 million to support the newly married couples.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the State Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan, commended the government for constructing permanent offices for the commission across all local government areas, noting that it would enhance its operations and service delivery.
