President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), nominating Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, two cabinet members—Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development—have been directed to step down from their positions.

Edun is to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to serve as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.

In the housing sector, Dr. Darma has been named minister-designate, while Dangiwa is expected to hand over to the Minister of State pending the completion of formal processes.

The SGF directed that all handover procedures be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.

Akume said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening coordination within government and enhancing service delivery in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are designed to deepen synergy in governance and ensure more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians,” he said.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reposition the cabinet would remain ongoing.

The statement was signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF.
