The decision by the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics, in collaboration with UNICEF, to validate the 2025 General Household Survey has been described as a significant step toward strengthening evidence-based governance in the state.
Stakeholders say the move comes at a critical time when governance outcomes are increasingly measured by tangible impact rather than policy promises, making reliable data essential for effective planning and service delivery.
According to analysts, accurate and up-to-date data remains the backbone of meaningful development, as weak or outdated information can lead to poor policy targeting, inefficient allocation of resources, and the exclusion of vulnerable populations.
The validation of the survey, they noted, is aimed at ensuring that government decisions are guided by realities on the ground, reflecting the living conditions of citizens across both rural and urban communities.
Observers also highlighted that the initiative aligns with the administration of Dikko Umaru Radda, which has been promoting a shift toward data-driven governance to enhance policy effectiveness and accountability.
They further emphasized the role of the Statistician-General, Saifullahi Sani Matazu, in maintaining data integrity and ensuring that the survey meets required standards for planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation.
However, stakeholders cautioned that beyond the validation process, the real test lies in the practical use of the data. They stressed the need for government agencies and policymakers to translate findings into actionable programmes, particularly in key sectors such as healthcare, education, social protection, and economic development.
The partnership with UNICEF was also commended for bringing international expertise and reinforcing the focus on children and other vulnerable groups.
Analysts concluded that while the validation exercise marks a positive development, sustained commitment and consistent application of data will determine the long-term impact on governance and development outcomes in Katsina State.
