A pressure group under the banner of Daura Citizens Concern has disowned the recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda for the 2027 general elections by some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Daura.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Hon. Muhammad Lawal Nalado, former National Chairman of the Accord Party and a two-time National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), said the endorsement announced on Monday was a purely APC decision and did not reflect the collective position of Daura residents.
Nalado explained that many political leaders, community representatives, and citizens of Daura were not consulted before the endorsement was made public.
“The APC has the right to endorse any candidate of its choice, but it does not have the mandate to speak on behalf of the entire people of Daura,” he said.
He described the endorsement meeting, reportedly held at the Government Secretariat, as exclusionary, stressing that decisions affecting the political future of Daura should involve wide consultations across political parties and community groups.
According to him, some APC members have also expressed dissatisfaction with the process, claiming they were not part of the meeting that produced the endorsement.
Nalado maintained that Daura Citizens Concern is a non-partisan platform made up of individuals from different political parties who come together to deliberate on issues affecting the local government.
“When Daura people are ready to endorse any candidate, it will be done openly and with the consent of all relevant stakeholders,” he added.
Responding to allegations that his statement was intended to promote a particular political aspirant, Nalado dismissed the claim as unfounded, insisting that he did not mention or campaign for any individual.
He reaffirmed his membership of the Accord Party and stated that he has not declared interest in contesting for any elective office in 2027.
The group emphasized that its position was not an attack on the APC or the government, but a rejection of what it described as the misrepresentation of Daura’s collective will.
