The Lado Development Foundation, under the leadership of Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, has continued its wide-ranging community development initiatives in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment across Katsina State.
The Foundation’s Coordinator, Muhammad Ghali Salisu Bakori, made this known in an interview with Katsina Times during a screening exercise for scholarship beneficiaries at the Federal University, Dutsinma, on Saturday.
Bakori disclosed that the Foundation has awarded full scholarships to over 17,000 students across secondary and tertiary institutions, covering complete tuition and registration fees to ensure that financial hardship does not prevent students from pursuing their education.
“The Lado Foundation provides full scholarships from secondary school to university level to guarantee access to quality education for children of less privileged families,” Bakori said.
He explained that among the beneficiaries are 4,706 NECO candidates, 4,176 JAMB applicants, 3,313 students from Colleges of Education, 206 from Science and Technical Colleges, and 5,487 university students, including postgraduate candidates.
In the area of healthcare, Bakori said the Foundation has, within the last six months, visited about 50 hospitals, where it provided medical and financial assistance to more than 5,800 patients, and organized free medical outreach programmes offering treatment for eye, dental, and other health conditions.
He added that the Foundation has also rolled out women empowerment programmes, through which women are being trained in various trades and small-scale businesses to enable them to achieve financial independence and contribute to community development.
“Our mission is to improve the quality of life for our people and ensure that no one is left behind in education and healthcare,” he stated.
Some beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed gratitude and excitement over the support.
Hauwa Goma, from Kafur Local Government Area, said the scholarship came as a lifeline to her education.
“My parents couldn’t afford my school fees this semester, but the Lado Foundation’s scholarship saved my education. I’m deeply grateful,” she said.
Aminu Lawal, from Bakori, described the support as a motivation to work harder.
“This full scholarship has given me new hope and determination to excel. The Foundation isn’t just paying our fees; it’s giving us a brighter future,” he remarked.
Shafiu Sani, a student with special needs, commended the Foundation for its inclusiveness.
“They treated me with dignity and care. They paid my fees and provided me with learning materials. This shows that people with special needs are valued members of society,” he said.
The beneficiaries called on other wealthy individuals and philanthropists to emulate Senator Lado’s humanitarian initiatives in promoting education, healthcare, and community development across Katsina State.
