President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major reshuffle in the leadership of Nigeria’s armed forces as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and enhance the protection of lives and property.
According to a statement from the Presidential Villa, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Christopher Musa.
Similarly, Major-General W. Shaibu is the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), while Rear Admiral I. Abbas has been appointed as the new Chief of Naval Staff (CNS). Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, particularly General Christopher Musa, for their dedication, professionalism, and patriotic service to the nation.
He also urged the newly appointed officers to discharge their duties with integrity, discipline, and unity of purpose to ensure the country’s security and stability.
“Your appointments are based on your proven competence and commitment to service. I expect you to work together to uphold national security and strengthen cooperation within the Armed Forces,” President Tinubu stated.
The new appointments take immediate effect.
