The Katsina State Government has announced plans to begin the direct release of monthly allocations to local governments across the state.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, made the decision to ensure timely funds disbursement to strengthen grassroots governance. As part of the new arrangement, the state will release the outstanding August allocations to the 34 local governments.
The disclosure was made on Monday by the Special Adviser on Local Government Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, alongside the Auditor for Local Governments, Alhaji Shu'aibu Aliyu. They addressed local government chairmen and treasurers during a meeting held at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Katsina.
Hon. Safana explained that the meeting aimed to guide local government officials on their statutory roles, particularly in managing public funds. He cautioned that they must strictly adhere to financial regulations as the designated signatories to financial documents and custodians of local government treasuries. Any breach, he warned, would be treated as fraud.
He also noted that the meeting discussed preparations for the 2026 state budget.
Hon. Safana reaffirmed Governor Radda’s administration's commitment to ensuring effective service delivery at the local government level. The meeting later continued behind closed doors.
