In a renewed effort to modernize agriculture and empower rural communities, the Katsina State Government has organized a comprehensive training workshop for extension workers in the Funtua zone. The initiative, spearheaded by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Livestock, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, is part of a broader campaign by Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda to boost livestock and modern farming practices across the state.
Speaking during the workshop, Jibia emphasized the importance of livestock and modern agriculture as both a sustainable source of income and a proud cultural tradition in the region. He noted that many individuals have successfully financed Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages through earnings from livestock and farming ventures.
“Livestock farming is not only a tradition but a globally profitable business,” Jibia said. “With the right mindset and training, our people can become international livestock entrepreneurs, supplying meat and animals such as goats to neighboring countries.”
He encouraged extension workers to be diligent and morally upright in their duties, stressing their vital role in training farmers and supporting rural development. Jibia also praised Governor Radda for his continued investment in agricultural transformation and the welfare of frontline workers.
Also addressing participants, the Permanent Secretary of the Livestock Department, Dr. Isa Abba, reiterated the strategic importance of livestock to economic and community growth. He advised beneficiaries of the “Ward 361” livestock distribution initiative to seek regular veterinary support to maintain healthy and productive animals.
“Our department, under the leadership of the Special Adviser, is open day and night to serve the needs of livestock farmers,” Dr. Abba assured. “We are committed to helping them succeed.”
Dr. Abba added that one of the key objectives of the current administration is to modernize livestock and farming practices by building the capacity of extension workers through consistent training and knowledge sharing.
Director of Livestock, Gambo Abubakar, also spoke at the event, expressing confidence in the administration’s commitment to agricultural progress. He stated that with ongoing government support, Katsina State is on track to become a major hub for food, meat, and livestock production in Nigeria and beyond.
He noted that similar training workshops had already been conducted in Katsina Zone and are currently underway in the Funtua Zone. The next phase is scheduled for the Daura Zone as part of a statewide rollout designed to ensure the success of the program in all regions.
