Al-Qalam University, Katsina, has officially commissioned its new College of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, a milestone project generously funded and developed by ARS Initiative Africa.
The college was formally unveiled in a ceremony that celebrated the growing contribution of private sector initiatives in enhancing access to quality education in Northern Nigeria. The newly commissioned college will offer courses in Nursing Science, Physiotherapy, Radiology, and Nutrition and Dietary Science.
Speaking on the development, Lawal Aminu Bala, PhD, General Manager of KASAMA, commended the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Professor Nasiru Yauri, describing him as “purposeful and result-oriented.” He praised the VC's dedication to providing a conducive learning environment and his tireless efforts to attract support from philanthropists and corporate organizations.
“This donation is a testament to Professor Yauri’s ability to foster a culture of moral and academic excellence at Al-Qalam University,” he said.
Dr. Bala also acknowledged the vital role played by ARS Initiative Africa in delivering the new college and expressed profound appreciation for the group's intervention in the education sector.
In his remarks, he lauded the Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdussamad Rabi’u, for his sustained contributions to education, healthcare, and security across Nigeria and the African continent. “We pray Almighty Allah continues to protect him and his wealth for the benefit of humanity,” he added.
Dr. Bala also used the opportunity to appeal to individuals, politicians, and private organizations to sponsor intelligent but underprivileged students to study at the college. According to him, with registration fees of less than ₦500,000 per session, sponsors can help build the next generation of health professionals who will serve not only Katsina State and Northern Nigeria but also the global health sector.
The launch of the College of Medical and Allied Health Sciences marks a significant step in expanding access to professional health education in the region.
