The Executive Director of the Katsina State Agency for Mass Education, Hajiya Bilkisu Muhammad Kaikai, has disclosed that the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education has mandated the identification and enrolment of 500,000 out-of-school individuals across seven northern states.
According to Hajiya Bilkisu, the states involved in the initiative include Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Jigawa. Each state is expected to provide 646 beneficiaries comprising adult learners, youth, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable children.
She made the disclosure following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, where the participating states were represented. Hajiya Bilkisu revealed that she led the delegation from Zamfara and Kaduna states to the office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President. The purpose of the visit was to discuss how the federal government could support the programme in reaching targeted dropouts and provide feeding assistance to encourage enrolment and retention.
Photograph taken after the meeting featured the representative of the Honourable Minister of Education, who attended the engagement alongside other critical stakeholders.
The initiative is part of the federal government’s broader effort to reduce illiteracy and enhance access to non-formal education, particularly among disadvantaged groups in the northern region.
