Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Babangida, has formally declined his recent appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
In a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babangida expressed his sincere gratitude for being considered for the position, describing it as a "true privilege" to be thought worthy of playing a strategic role in the nation’s agricultural and economic development.
However, he stated that after careful reflection and consultations, he has decided—"with utmost respect"—to turn down the offer, citing a combination of personal and professional factors that currently limit his ability to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position demands.
"This decision was not made lightly," Babangida wrote. "It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands."
Despite declining the appointment, Babangida reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu's administration and expressed readiness to contribute to national development in other capacities.
"I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership," he wrote, adding that he holds the administration in high regard and is willing to serve the country in other areas where his expertise may be of value.
Babangida concluded the letter by thanking the President for the confidence reposed in him.
