Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered ₦800,000 allegedly taken from them by terrorists in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims were rescued on Saturday, August 22, after troops responded to a distress call that terrorists had intercepted a vehicle and abducted six occupants along the Dandume-Sheme Road.
The Media Information Officer of the task force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the operation in a statement issued in Katsina on Sunday.
According to Danja, troops under Sector 2 swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into nearby bushes.
All six victims were rescued unharmed, while the troops recovered the ₦800,000 reportedly taken from them.
Danja said the recovered money and vehicle were handed back to the victims in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer in Dandume.
In a separate operation on August 21, troops also engaged terrorists along the Maraban Kankara axis in Kankara Local Government Area, forcing them to flee.
The troops subsequently recovered a motorcycle during a search of the area.
Danja said Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue aggressive patrols and offensive operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and protecting lives and property across the region.
He urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements.
