Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has been honoured with the Distinguished Humanitarian Fellowship by the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in recognition of his commitment to human welfare and social progress.
The honour was conferred during a ceremony at the Katsina Government House on Thursday, where the governor also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and the IHSD. The partnership is aimed at enhancing humanitarian responses and improving social development initiatives across the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda described the MoU as a "timely and strategic collaboration" that will build capacity among civil servants and improve the delivery of social care services. He expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating, “I am truly honoured to be recognised with this Distinguished Fellowship. It motivates me to continue working harder in addressing the social needs of our people.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s focus on poverty alleviation and youth empowerment through micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) support and social safety net programmes.
“From day one, we have rolled out interventions to reduce hardship and expand opportunities for our youth. Today’s recognition reaffirms that we are on the right path,” he added.
Chairman of the IHSD Governing Council, Professor Babangida Matazu, highlighted the institute’s 16-year record in promoting capacity-building and social development in Nigeria and across Africa. He noted that the IHSD has previously worked with Katsina State on training programmes, and the new MoU will deepen this partnership.
Dr. Prince Francis Oliga, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Institute, presented Governor Radda with a nomination letter for the 2025 Pan-African Humanitarian Leadership Award, which will be held in October at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
“Your efforts in tackling insecurity, job creation, and social protection have been outstanding. You are a continental example,” Dr. Oliga remarked.
The upcoming award ceremony is expected to bring together African leaders, ambassadors, and humanitarian institutions to celebrate impactful leadership across the continent.
Governor Radda welcomed the nomination and assured the IHSD of his administration’s readiness to uphold the terms of the MoU. He called on other stakeholders to join efforts in building a more inclusive and socially secure society.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; Chief Judge of the State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir Mamman; Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Garba Abdullahi Faskari; and the Chairman of Gwagware Foundation, Yusuf Aliyu Musawa.
