Katsina TIMES, June 14, 2025
The Katsina State Police Command has dismantled two criminal gangs involved in armed robbery and motorcycle theft, recovering key exhibits and arresting a total of five suspects in separate operations.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, two suspected armed robbers, aged 26 and 18, were arrested on June 12, 2025, following credible intelligence. An immediate search led to the recovery of a black iPhone 12 valued at ₦550,000, an unvalued Oppo phone, and a sharp cutlass.
Two victims later identified the suspects as their attackers. The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and named an accomplice who is currently at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect as investigations continue.
In a related development, at about 5:00 p.m. the same day, officers from Sabon Gari Division foiled a motorcycle theft attempt at Barhim Roundabout, Katsina, arresting three suspects notorious for drugging commercial motorcycle riders. The suspects allegedly offered drug-laced drinks to victims before making away with their motorcycles.
Recovered items from the trio included four empty motorcycle sales receipts, two fabricated motorcycle keys, and a liquid substance suspected to be an intoxicant. All suspects have confessed to the offence and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the swift actions of the officers, Commissioner of Police CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, praised the dedication of the operatives and urged the public to maintain vigilance and continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity.
"The fight against crime is a collective effort," the CP noted, calling on citizens to support ongoing efforts to ensure public safety across the state.
