The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its crucial role in a recent nationwide operation that led to the seizure and destruction of massive quantities of illicit drugs.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, received a formal letter of commendation from the NSA in recognition of the agency’s outstanding contributions to the successful national security assignment.

The operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports on the influx of Tramadol and other illegal pharmaceuticals through Nigerian ports. In response, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) established a multi-agency committee involving the Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Army, and NAFDAC.

With active participation from NAFDAC officials stationed at various ports, the committee achieved several key milestones:

  • Identification and tracking of large volumes of illicit drugs.

  • Safe evacuation and transportation of 200 containers of banned pharmaceuticals.

  • Complete destruction of the substances at approved facilities.

  • Engagement with the media and public to ensure transparency and public confidence.

Ribadu lauded NAFDAC’s patriotism, strong leadership, and unwavering dedication to national security, noting that the agency’s efforts helped avert serious public health and security risks.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and maintaining the integrity of the country’s drug supply system.
