In a determined effort to uplift adult and non-formal education across Katsina State, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Agency for Mass Education, Hajiya Bilkisu Muhammad Kaikai, has embarked on a comprehensive monitoring tour across four local government areas, despite prevailing security challenges in parts of the state.

The working visit, which took place on Wednesday, May 27, 2025, covered adult learning centres and Tsangaya schools in Dutsin-ma, Kankia, Kusada, and Ingawa local government areas. It aimed to assess the progress of literacy and vocational education initiatives being implemented by the agency in collaboration with the Katsina State Government.

A significant part of the tour included a stop at Yarkutungu, a rural community in Kankia LGA known for security concerns, where over 100 women are actively enrolled in literacy and skills acquisition programmes. Hajiya Kaikai commended their resilience and expressed admiration for their commitment to self-improvement in the face of insecurity.

Speaking during the inspection, the Executive Secretary underscored the importance of on-site evaluation to ensure that teaching and learning activities meet the standards set by the state government under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda Ph.D. She stressed that such visits not only provide a platform for performance evaluation but also help boost the morale of instructors and learners alike.

“This visit is part of our strategic monitoring and support efforts. We want to ensure that the quality of instruction delivered in these centres aligns with the goals of eradicating illiteracy and building a self-reliant citizenry through inclusive education,” she stated.

Hajiya Kaikai praised Governor Radda’s unwavering commitment to educational development, especially in empowering women and vulnerable groups through non-formal education. According to her, the administration’s education reform agenda includes the revitalisation of Tsangaya schools and adult literacy centres as key components in bridging the knowledge gap and promoting societal development.

She also used the opportunity to carry out impromptu assessments at various centres to evaluate both learners’ performance and instructional quality. Visibly impressed by the level of engagement and learning outcomes, she commended instructors for their dedication and urged them to remain focused on their critical role in transforming lives through education.

At each stop, she was warmly received by community stakeholders, including centre officials, Tsangaya instructors, traditional rulers, and local government leaders, who expressed appreciation for the renewed attention being given to adult education. They lauded both Hajiya Kaikai and Governor Radda for their visionary leadership and pledged continued support for the government’s education agenda.

Some of the educational institutions visited during the tour include:

The Women’s Literacy Centre located at the District Palace in Dutsin-ma, along with two Tsangaya schools;

A children’s Tsangaya school and a women’s literacy centre in Yarkutungu, Kankia LGA;

A men’s literacy centre situated near the District Palace in Kankia;

Several functional centres in Kusada, including children’s Tsangaya schools, a women’s literacy centre, and a vocational training facility;

Two children’s Tsangaya schools in Ingawa LGA.

In addition to inspecting educational facilities, Hajiya Kaikai paid courtesy visits to respected community leaders, including the District Head of Dutsin-ma, Alhaji Sada Muhammad Sada; the Kankiyan Katsina, Alhaji Musa Hassan Sada; Kusada LGA Chairman, Hon. Sani Aminu Dangamau; and the Galadiman Kusada, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima. The leaders commended the agency's efforts and offered their blessings for the continued success of the education initiatives.

The tour not only reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to accessible and inclusive education but also demonstrated the government's resolve to press forward with development efforts even in the face of insecurity. With the momentum now set, residents in these communities are hopeful that sustained intervention in education will pave the way for long-term peace, empowerment, and prosperity across Katsina State.
