CP Bello Shehu Reaffirms Support for Women Journalists During NAWOJ Courtesy Visit

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, received members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters in Katsina.

The visit, led by the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajiya Hannatu Mohammed, aimed to strengthen the existing collaboration between the police and women journalists in the state. In her remarks, Hajiya Hannatu welcomed the CP to the state and lauded the cordial relationship between the media and the security agency. She called for deeper cooperation to enhance public awareness and credible news dissemination.

She also appealed to the Command to intervene in addressing challenges facing the association, particularly issues related to gender-based violence, and requested stronger institutional support for women journalists in the state.

Responding, CP Bello Shehu expressed gratitude for the visit and praised NAWOJ for its commitment to ethical journalism. He assured the association of the Command’s readiness to maintain open channels of communication and urged members of the press to always verify sensitive information before publication.

“The Command remains committed to creating a supportive environment for journalists in Katsina State,” the CP stated, adding that the police are already taking proactive steps to address gender-based violence and other challenges affecting women.

The meeting concluded with a group photograph, marking a renewed commitment to collaboration between the police and the media in promoting peace and security across the state.
