KATSINA – Dozens of youths staged a peaceful protest in Katsina on Sunday morning, demanding justice over the continued detention of popular singer, Alhaji Sirajo Mai Asharalle.
The protest, which began at dawn, drew public attention as demonstrators called on the Katsina State Government to intervene and ensure that the rule of law is followed in the handling of the singer’s case.
One of the protest leaders told Katsina Times:
“For days now, our mentor, Alhaji Sirajo Mai Asharalle, has been held without any valid court order. We are calling on the government to treat this matter with fairness.”
The controversy dates back to the month of Ramadan, when a clash erupted between the singer and operatives of the Katsina State Hisbah Board during a raid in his neighbourhood. Reports indicate that the altercation led to violence between Hisbah officials and local youths, resulting in injuries to officers and damage to public property, including vehicles allegedly vandalised by the Hisbah team.
According to Hisbah, some of its officers sustained injuries from gunfire allegedly fired by the singer during the clash. The case is currently before the court.
Investigations by Katsina Times confirm that the trial has commenced, with the next hearing scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Protesting youths continue to demand justice and urge the authorities to ensure due process and lawful resolution of the matter.
