Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered an investigation into the gruesome killing of hunters traveling to northern Nigeria for the Eid celebrations. He assured that justice would be served, stressing that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.
According to Daily Trust, the victims were intercepted in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, by a mob that mistook them for kidnappers upon discovering their hunting rifles. The assailants set the hunters ablaze in a horrific act captured in a video seen by Daily Trust.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians condemning the government's failure to curb mob justice.
Speaking in Uromi through the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Government House, SP Solomon Osaghale, Governor Okpebholo described the act as terrorism and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice. He visited the scene to assess the damage and ensure a thorough investigation to prevent future occurrences.
