As part of efforts to decongest correctional centers, Katsina State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Musa Danladi, granted bail to 91 inmates and discharged four on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

The bail was ordered during the first quarter jail delivery exercise for 2025, held at Medium Security Custodial Centre Katsina Old. Speaking during the exercise, the Chief Judge revealed that the inmates were recommended by the Sub-Committee on Decongestion of Correctional Centres for various reasons.

Some of the inmates who regained their freedom were released due to age, duration of stay in custody, and health conditions.

During the exercise, the Chief Judge announced that henceforth, details of inmates released during the jail delivery exercise will be recorded alongside their pictures for future reference.

Hon. Justice Danladi urged the released inmates to be law-abiding citizens, warning that similar opportunities might not arise if they are found guilty of other offenses.

Katsina State Controller of Corrections, CC Umar Baba, appreciated the Chief Judge's efforts, stating that the exercise has benefited correctional centers in the state. The jail delivery exercise has helped manage inmates, reduce tension within centers, and enhance reformation.

CC Baba appealed to court judges and magistrates to use non-custodial measures to reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities, enabling the service to perform its duties of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates as law-abiding citizens.
