Five Major Roads Set for Execution in Katsina – Minister of State for Works

The Katsina State Government has reiterated its commitment to fast-tracking the completion of the Katsina-Kano federal highway project.

Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe made this known while receiving the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goranyo, at the Government House in Katsina.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Jobe assured that the state government would facilitate the payment of compensation to landowners affected by the road project in accordance with federal highway policies. He stressed that this measure was crucial to ensuring the project's timely completion.

"The state government is deeply committed to this road project, which is among the most significant initiatives aimed at transforming economic activities, enhancing livelihoods, and improving security across the North West," Jobe stated.

He commended the federal government for its efforts in completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones in the state. He also reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to providing adequate security for the construction firm to ensure smooth project execution.

Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goranyo, explained that his visit was part of a nationwide assessment of ongoing federal projects, in line with the president's directive to evaluate projects initiated by the previous administration.

He confirmed that the federal government had made adequate budgetary provisions for both ongoing and newly initiated projects.

"In Katsina State alone, five major road projects are set for execution. These include the Katsina-Kano dualisation road, Kano-Daura-Kongolom road, Kwanar Babangida-Kagara road, Kafur-Dabai-Malumfashi road, and Katsina-Kazaure-Maiadua road," Goranyo disclosed.

The Minister emphasized that under the new policy, state governments would now be responsible for compensating landowners for acquired lands. He urged the Katsina State Government to provide security for construction firms to ensure timely project execution.

Commissioners of Works, Housing, and Transport, Engineer Dr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, and Lands and Physical Planning, Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita, expressed gratitude to the federal government for prioritizing road infrastructure in the state. However, the Commissioner of Lands appealed to the federal government to reconsider paying compensation for land acquired before the new policy was introduced.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Adesina Adewo, explained that the policy shift was necessitated by the federal government’s financial constraints and the increasing burden of compensations.
