Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has stated that Nasir El-Rufai and his allies cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu, as they are not driven by patriotism.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Lamido emphasized that leadership should not be guided by anger, resentment, or personal ambition but by patience, foresight, and the pursuit of national stability.
"If you allow anger to dictate your decisions, you will never be just—you will only serve your own interests," he said.
He stressed that true leadership prioritizes national interest over personal grievances, adding, "What matters is putting the country first, rather than fueling resentment."
Lamido further noted that Nigeria needs visionary leaders committed to the nation’s progress rather than those who seek to stir conflicts.
Lamido criticized former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai over speculations that he left the APC due to his dissatisfaction with not securing a ministerial position in Tinubu’s administration.
He also responded to El-Rufai’s call for PDP members to join his new party, the SDP, accusing him of betrayal. "El-Rufai owes his political rise to the PDP, yet he abandoned it. Now, he is urging others to do the same," Lamido said.
The former governor also expressed surprise at El-Rufai’s newfound admiration for former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his previous claims that there were no true elders in Northern Nigeria.
