Katsina Honors Sheikh Yakub Yahya for Public Health Advocacy

The Katsina State Government has honored renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Yakub Yahya Katsina for his significant contributions to public health awareness and disease prevention. The recognition ceremony took place on Monday, 3rd Ramadan 1446 (March 3, 2025) at the office of the Katsina State Commissioner for Health. The event was attended by humanitarian organizations, religious scholars, community leaders, and traditional rulers.

During the ceremony, the state government highlighted the vital role of religious institutions in societal development, particularly in combating communicable diseases. In addition to Sheikh Yakub Yahya, the Katsina Emirate and Islamic scholar Dr. Isma’il Al-Kashnawy were also recognized for their contributions to the healthcare sector.

The event brought together key health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Cigari Foundation, APNET NGO, the State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCA), and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), among others.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Commissioner of Health Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua commended the efforts of health-focused organizations, particularly in the fight against poliomyelitis. He also praised Sheikh Yakub Yahya for his dedication to community development across various sectors.

Led by the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCA), the event reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating diseases through effective immunization programs across the state and Nigeria at large.
