Katsina Government Allocates ₦50 Billion for Water Projects in 2025
The Katsina State Government has earmarked approximately ₦50 billion to execute various water-related projects across the state in 2025, aimed at ensuring access to clean and potable water for all residents.
The Managing Director of the Katsina State Water Board, Mr. Tukur Tingilin, disclosed this on Tuesday while inaugurating grievance redress committees in Katsina.
Massive Water Projects Across LGAs
Tingilin revealed that the government had initiated numerous projects to benefit the people by improving water infrastructure and supply. Under the World Bank-supported NG-SURWASH programme, the state allocated ₦8.4 billion in 2024 to upgrade and rehabilitate water facilities across five Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 20 communities.
The affected LGAs include Katsina/Batagarawa, Daura, Funtua, Dutsinma, and Malumfashi. The projects aim to replace obsolete pipes, install new water systems, and enhance existing infrastructure to accommodate the growing population.
"These upgrades are essential because some facilities were originally designed for smaller populations, which have now increased to thousands," Tingilin said.
Stakeholder Engagement and Grievance Redress
Extensive consultations with stakeholders were conducted to ensure the projects' success. The newly inaugurated grievance redress committees will address issues arising during the project execution, particularly in resolving disputes between communities and contractors.
"For instance, if a project disrupts someone’s shop, the committee will intervene to ensure the affected individual is compensated, and any damages are repaired," Tingilin explained.
The committees are also tasked with monitoring project implementation to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
Targeted Improvements for Communities
Tingilin emphasized that the initiative includes the installation of additional water tanks, boreholes, and solar-powered facilities while ensuring regular maintenance. The government also plans to replace outdated pipes in Katsina metropolis and extend water lines to new areas, thereby improving access to potable water.
"Governor Dikko Radda is committed to ensuring no community is left without a reliable water supply," Tingilin said.
Community Support and Assurance
In his remarks, the District Head of Malumfashi and Galadiman Katsina, Justice Sadiq Abdullahi-Mahuta, commended the governor’s initiatives and assured that both the Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils would support the projects' successful execution.
This significant investment in water infrastructure underscores the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents across Katsina State.
