KTSG Reaffirms Commitment to Enhancing Health Education Standards
The Katsina State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the quality of health education in the state as part of efforts to boost the healthcare system and safeguard public health. This was disclosed by Hon. Umar Mammada, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Institutions and Chairman of the State’s Health Schools Inspection Committee.
Speaking during an inspection tour of health schools across the state, Mammada emphasized that the government’s decision to assess and regulate health institutions is aimed at ensuring compliance with established standards. The inspection, he said, is part of the government's broader initiative to reopen previously closed health schools after addressing identified deficiencies.
The schools visited during the tour include Cognate Community College of Sciences and Technology, Barda College of Health Science and Technology, Katsina, KEBRAM College of Sciences and Technology, Gial College of Sciences and Technology, and the College of Sciences at Al-Qalam University in Katsina.
According to Hon. Mammada, the significance of health education necessitates thorough oversight to ensure graduates are adequately prepared to serve society effectively. He likened untrained or inadequately trained healthcare workers to armed bandits, asserting that both pose a risk to human life.
"Without providing quality healthcare education, the risk to public health is immense. A poorly trained health worker can harm just as much as a criminal with a weapon," Mammada stated.
He clarified that the temporary closure of health schools was not arbitrary but was implemented to safeguard public health. The government, he said, has been working closely with the schools granted provisional reopening to ensure they adhere to the prescribed regulations.
Mammada commended KEBRAM College of Sciences and Technology for addressing key issues and enhancing its facilities to meet the required standards. He urged other institutions to intensify their efforts and fulfill all stipulated requirements before resuming full academic activities.
The Special Adviser assured the public that the committee is working tirelessly to ensure that schools meeting the necessary criteria are reopened promptly.
Leaders of the inspected institutions, including Dr. Kabir Moto of Cognate Community College, Hajiya Hadiza Barda of Barda College of Health Sciences, Pwaspo Katsun Tanko of KEBRAM College, and Ibrahim Abdulrahman of Gial College of Sciences, expressed their gratitude for the government’s initiative.
They pledged their commitment to implementing the required measures and improving teaching and learning standards in their respective institutions to enhance the quality of healthcare education in Katsina State.
With this renewed focus on health education, the Katsina State Government aims to produce well-trained healthcare professionals capable of addressing the health challenges of the state and beyond.
