The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has expressed concerns over reports of some SS3 students absconding from classes after completing their qualifying examinations.

In a directive issued on December 5, 2024, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ummulkhairi Ahmad Bawa, the ministry emphasized that students must maintain at least 75% attendance in their classes to qualify for registration in external examinations, including WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS.

Furthermore, the ministry clarified that students failing to meet the attendance requirement would not be considered government-sponsored candidates, even if they pass their qualifying exams. School principals and coordinators have been instructed to ensure compliance with this policy to curb absenteeism.

The ministry urged immediate implementation of the directive, stressing the importance of treating the matter with urgency.
