Institute for Humanitarian Studies to Invest in Katsina, Targets Youth Empowerment

The Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development, Nigeria, is poised to make significant investments in Katsina State, aiming to empower the youth through its humanitarian programs. The institute, operating under the United Nations, has called for the cooperation and backing of the Katsina State government to ensure the success of its initiatives.

During a strategic visit to Katsina, Dr. Francis Origa, Chief Registrar and CEO of the institute in Nigeria, along with his delegation, met with the Secretary to the State Government Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, representing Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to support the initiative, recognizing its potential benefits for the people of Katsina.

In an interview with Katsina Times, Dr. Origa outlined the institute's mission to promote human welfare, security, and safety in the state. He stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in driving humanitarian-based social transformation across Nigeria, with a particular focus on northern states like Katsina.

"Our goal is to introduce a humanitarian approach to governance, shifting from traditional security enforcement to a comprehensive, preventive model. Katsina, with its historical significance, is key to setting an example for social transformation," Dr. Origa stated.

He highlighted the institute's efforts to address the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and unemployment, by equipping citizens with skills in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and grant sourcing. The institute also plans to collaborate with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders to provide financial support, including interest-free loans, aimed at helping individuals become self-reliant.

"A hungry man can easily be lured into crime, so we must prioritize the welfare of our people by providing opportunities that allow them to thrive independently," Dr. Origa emphasized.

The institute's focus on humanitarian principles, he noted, will be integrated into all sectors of governance to address the underlying issues contributing to insecurity, ensuring long-term socioeconomic development for Katsina and the nation at large.
