Katsina, August 18th, 2024 - The Katsina State Police Command has refuted a viral social media report alleging an attempted bandit attack on Katsina Metro, particularly around Ummaru Musa Yaradua University. The Command labeled the report as false and misleading.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the rumor, which has been widely circulated on WhatsApp, suggested that bandits were planning an attack on the metropolis. However, the police clarified that this claim is entirely unfounded.
On the evening of August 17th, 2024, around 8:20 PM, the Batagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters received credible information from the Chairman of Batagarawa LGA and the village head of Kwarin Mai Koso village. They reported that armed bandits had been spotted on seven motorcycles, traveling from Dutsen Kura village in Batsari LGA towards Kwarin Mai Kwaro village in Batagarawa LGA.
Reacting promptly to the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) deployed an APC patrol team in collaboration with local vigilantes to the reported area. The security measures taken forced the bandits to abandon their intended plan and divert to an unknown location. The area was secured, and no incident occurred, thanks to the quick response from the security forces. Ongoing patrols and monitoring continue to ensure the safety of the area.
The police urged the public to remain calm, dismiss the false report, and continue with their normal activities, as the Katsina State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state and its residents.
