STRATEGIC MEETING ON BIRTH AND DEATH REGISTRATION BILL

Today, July 23, 2024, a Tripartite Committee comprising representatives from the National Population Commission (NPC), UNICEF Nigeria, and Barnksforte Technologies held a strategic meeting to navigate the legislative process and facilitate the successful passage of the Birth and Death Registration Bill into law at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel. 

The meeting aimed to strengthen the NPC's legal framework in light of the digitization of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system.

The meeting was graced by the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Identity and Population, Sen. Abdul Ningi, and 
Chairman, House Committee on National Identity and Population, Hon. Okunjimi Odimayo, who were there to provide legislative guidance to ensure smooth passage of the Birth and Death Registration Bill into law. The meeting also had in attendance the NPC Chairman, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, Federal Commissioners and Director-General of the Commission, Chief of Child Protection, UNICEF Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Sessay, among other members of the Committee. 

This crucial step further underscores the commitment of the NPC, UNICEF Nigeria, and Banksforte Technologies Limited to enhancing the legal framework governing birth and death registration in Nigeria.

The successful passage of the Bill into law will significantly strengthen the NPC's mandate and ultimately contribute to improved data quality and management for evidence-based planning and national development.
