Leaders of Nigeria and Brazil Pledge to Revitalize Bilateral Ties Across Various Sectors

In a historic meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil engaged in fruitful discussions aimed at strengthening the ties between their nations across multiple domains.

President Tinubu underscored Nigeria's economic potential and ongoing reforms, expressing the country's commitment to fostering growth and removing impediments to business. He emphasized investments in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture to ensure the welfare of Nigerian citizens and sustainable economic prosperity.

President Lula da Silva, acknowledging the historical connection between the two nations, lamented the decline in trade volume and expressed determination to restore and enhance bilateral relations. He highlighted the need for collaboration in academia, culture, commerce, agriculture, industry, and trade, pointing out areas for potential cooperation in aviation.

Both leaders committed to overcoming past challenges, with President Tinubu expressing Nigeria's readiness to deepen ties with Brazil. They identified key areas such as solid mineral exploration, agriculture, education, and healthcare for immediate collaboration, emphasizing the establishment of direct air links between the two countries.

President Tinubu pledged to form a committee to work closely with Brazilian counterparts, fostering a joint plan of action for mutual benefit. The leaders, representing the largest democracies in Africa and South America, concluded by agreeing to finalize plans for a state visit to Brazil by President Tinubu, further solidifying the renewed commitment to strengthened relations.
