In a distressing incident that unfolded on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, bandits executed a bold attack on Tasharnagulle village in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The grievous outcome of this assault manifested in the abduction of students from Yandaka Ruma Government Secondary School (G.S.S Yandaka).
A concerned parent and resident conveyed the prevailing sense of unease, expressing, "We are in a state of overwhelming distress. Among the victims taken by the bandits are five secondary school children, and none of us parents have the means to cope, let alone fathom their safe return. We, who struggle to put food on the table, are now grappling with this unexpected tragedy."
The victims of this heart-wrenching incident are identified as follows:
1. Maryam Umar - First grader in Junior High School (JSS1).
2. Halima Yaquba - First grader in Junior High School (JSS1).
3. Asiya Umar - Third grader in Junior High School (JSS3).
4. Aliyu Habibu - Junior High School student (JSS1).
5. Abubakar Isha - First grader in Junior High School (JSS1).
This region of Batsari has been plagued by recurrent bandit attacks, with a recent assault occurring just last week in the nearby village of Sakijiki, less than a kilometer away from Tasharnagulle. Tragically, during that incident, bandits killed a riot police officer and wounded another, underscoring the escalating crisis in the area.
