Ali Bongo Ondimba, the President of Gabon, has one son who has been detained for "treason." Furthermore, the former leader has been placed under house arrest.
President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon has a son who has been detained on charges of "treason."
In addition to this, the deposed president and some members of his family are currently under house arrest.
A statement issued on national television confirmed, "President Ali Bongo is currently under house arrest, surrounded by his family and medical personnel."
In the wake of their coup attempt early Wednesday morning, the validity of Bongo's election from the previous Saturday has been invalidated.
The coup plotters claimed to be acting on behalf of Gabon's security and defense forces, as they announced the dissolution of all republican institutions, including the parliament, and closed the country's borders.
