Katsina 2024 Budget: Water resources, education top govt’s priority list

The Katsina State Government has proposed a budget of N454.3 billion for the year 2024, placing water resources and education at the forefront of government priorities.
During a press briefing at the Old Katsina Government House, Alhaji Bello H. Kagara, Commissioner for the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, presented the breakdown of the 2024 budget tagged “Building Your Future.”
Kagara highlighted that the 2024 budget shows a significant increase from 2023, amounting to N153,675,604,150.96, marking a notable 51.11 per cent.
In the breakdown, water resources and education led in funding allocation, securing N67,161,802,447.39 (20.35 per cent) and N66,422,889,400.21 (20.13 per cent), respectively.
Works followed as the third priority sector, allocated N53,484,733,251.59 (16 per cent).
Health and environment also received substantial attention, securing allocations of N38,326,421,172.23 (11.62 per cent) and N37,700,116,210.24 (11.43 per cent), respectively, signifying the government’s commitment to these critical areas.
However, at the bottom of the priority list is the agricultural sector, which is allocated N20,513,909,753.71 (6.21 per cent) of the total capital spending.
Other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) collectively secured N46,371,646,360.60, constituting approximately 10.2 per cent of the allocation.
Kagara disclosed that out of the total estimated budget sum of N454,308,862,113.96, approximately 72.63 per cent (N329,979,518,595.97) is designated for capital expenditure, while 27.37 per cent (N124,329,343,517.99) is assigned for recurrent expenditure.
