Another early morning fire outbreak has struck Gezawa Market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, destroying shops and containers and leaving traders counting their losses.

The incident, which occurred at about 5:15 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, reportedly affected four containers and seven temporary shops, all of which were completely destroyed by the inferno.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Kabiru Jafaru, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the agency received a distress call from one Ibrahim Sani, who alerted officials to the fire at the market shortly after it started.

Firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they battled the flames and eventually brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the market.

The statement noted that despite the destruction recorded, the prompt intervention of the firefighters helped contain the blaze and avert further damage to nearby shops and business premises.

Following the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service urged residents and traders to observe necessary fire safety measures, particularly with the onset of the harmattan season, when dry and dusty conditions can increase the risk of fire outbreaks.

The latest incident comes just days after another devastating fire destroyed more than 100 buildings and structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano metropolis.

The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 31, 2026, reportedly razed 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures across different sections of the timber market.

The repeated incidents have raised fresh concerns over fire safety in Kano's commercial centres, where traders risk losing their businesses and investments to sudden outbreaks.
