NDC Vows Legal Battle Over Court Ruling, Alleges Political Motives

Founder of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has condemned a recent court ruling affecting the party, describing it as unlawful and a politically motivated attempt to undermine its growing influence.

Dickson insisted that the NDC would challenge the decision through all available legal channels, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious.

According to him, the ruling lacked legal foundation and was aimed at damaging the party’s credibility while restricting the growth of Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.

“The order is illegal and will not stand. It is against multi-party democracy, anti-democratic in nature, and aimed at narrowing and shrinking the democratic space. We have assembled our team of lawyers, and they are taking the necessary steps to set the order aside and restore normalcy,” he said.

The former governor urged party members, supporters and candidates to remain calm and continue their political activities without fear.

“This is only the first test of our commitment and resilience, and even this shall pass,” he added.

Dickson further alleged that the legal action was orchestrated by individuals unsettled by the rapid rise of the NDC, which he said had gained significant traction within just five months of its formation.

He argued that the applicant behind the suit was neither a registered political party nor one of the associations seeking registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and therefore lacked the legal standing to challenge the party.

“We know where this is coming from. It is coming from those who are shocked by the progress the NDC has made within such a short period through hard work and commitment to deepening multi-party democracy,” he stated.

Reaffirming the party’s determination to contest the ruling, Dickson described the court order as a judicial anomaly and vowed that the NDC would pursue every lawful avenue to overturn it.

“We are under attack, as I have repeatedly warned we should expect challenges such as this. But thereafter, we shall win. Thousands of Nigerians have continued to join the NDC in solidarity, and I sincerely thank Nigerians for the confidence they repose in our vision,” he said.

He added that the growing support for the party had strengthened its resolve to continue advocating for a vibrant and inclusive democratic system in Nigeria.
