A suspected drug dealer has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command following the recovery of 2,000 tablets of suspected diazepam in Funtua Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jibrin Salisu, was apprehended during a routine security operation carried out by police officers in the area.

Police authorities said the arrest was made on June 15 after operatives on patrol stopped and searched the suspect while he was travelling on a motorcycle. The search reportedly uncovered two sachets containing the prohibited substance.

Investigations by the command later revealed that the drugs were allegedly being transported to another individual. Information obtained from the suspect led detectives to a woman, Faith Eze, who was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody.

According to police findings, the drugs were meant for delivery to a man popularly known as “Gurgu”, who has since gone into hiding.

The command said both suspects have provided useful information to investigators, while efforts have been intensified to locate and arrest the fleeing accomplice.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illicit drugs and related crimes across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Ali Fage, reiterated the command's determination to clamp down on drug trafficking, warning offenders that security agencies would continue to pursue those engaged in the illegal trade.

He also called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers by sharing information that could help identify criminal elements operating within their communities.
