Former elected councillors in Katsina State have dissolved all existing factions and united under a single umbrella body, now known as the Former Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria (FCFN), Katsina State Chapter, in a move aimed at strengthening unity, welfare and collective engagement in the state.

The development was announced on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, by the newly elected Chairman of the forum, Hon. Dauda Kurfi, during a press briefing held in Katsina.

Hon. Kurfi explained that, for many years, former councillors in the state operated under several fragmented groups, with no fewer than five separate forums existing at different times. According to him, leaders of the various groups resolved that such divisions weakened their collective influence and agreed to merge into a single organisation with one leadership and one voice.

He said all former associations have now been formally dissolved to pave the way for the unified forum.

As part of the unification process, a new executive leadership was elected to steer the affairs of the forum. Hon. Dauda Kurfi emerged as Chairman, while Hon. Ibrahim Suleiman Daura was elected Secretary. Hon. Usman Rabe was named Deputy Chairman, with Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim (Castro), Hon. Ibrahim Kasko Kankara and Hon. Sani Aliyu Jarkuka appointed Vice Chairmen representing Katsina, Daura and Funtua zones respectively.

Other members of the executive include Hon. Armaya’u Dauda Gozaki as Treasurer; Hon. Usman A. Usman Na’alma as Youth Leader; Hon. Kabir Umar Ajiwa as Financial Secretary; and Hon. Yusuf Laila Katsina as Organising Secretary. Hon. Aminu Adamu Albasu was appointed Auditor, while Hon. Nura Musa Radda will serve as Legal Adviser. Assistant and support positions were also filled, including Public Relations Officers.

Hon. Kurfi stated that the forum has resolved to prioritise the welfare and well-being of all former councillors in Katsina State and to provide a coordinated platform through which their interests can be articulated.

He further disclosed that the forum has pledged its support for the administration of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, describing the governor as a grassroots leader who understands the challenges of councillors, having previously served as a local government chairman.

According to him, members of the forum have agreed to act as ambassadors of good governance by supporting policies and programmes that promote development and stability in the state.

Hon. Kurfi assured members that his leadership would be guided by fairness, transparency and accountability, while calling on all former councillors in the state to work together under the new platform for the progress of Katsina State.
