The formation, adjustments and inauguration of APC campaign council has indicated that it is likely to win the 2027 Presidential Election as well as majority of other elective positions across the country.

The controversy that trails the campaign council formation where many stakeholders shouted for non-inclusion has shown the writing on the wall that APC members across the country are committed to the party and resolved to vote for it during the 2027 general elections. A person who has no intention of voting would not mind whether he is considered in a campaign council list or not. But the fact that there were complaints that filled the air over it, means that the members are ready to vote despite the controversy surrounding insecurity and economic conditions of the people. The election ladder of APC in the country appears to be fixed in the ground, pulling it off may not be easy.

The alarm raised in Katsina over non-inclusion of the name of Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, Phd only fades out when an explanation came that all APC Governors are the co-ordinators of the council in their own states and that the names of Sokoto and Kebbi State Governors were also missing in the initial campaign council list. One would observe that it is the APC members that were raising the alarm not the Governor himself. By this action, it shows that members of the party would not go for another party on Election Day, if that happened then the APC is closer to victory than any of the opposition parties, because from what could be seen visibly it has more members than the remaining parties.

The vocal opposition party leaders are showing that Nigerian electorate are suffering in the hands of the ruling party and would at individual level vote against it. I am, however, doubting the possibility considering the fact that the history of Nigerian voters attitudes is tied to voting in accordance with party lines. Although, there were few instances where anti party election results were recorded, it does not suggests that it can happen on a larger scale as our people are always proud of the victory of their party.

The Amalgamation effort of the opposition parties to form a common front is unlikely to succeed because it is invariably late. The Presidential hopefuls could hardly agree to step down for one another, otherwise they could have done so earlier as they were together, but parted ways as none of them was ready to accept failure at the primary election. More so, other contestants under the opposition parties have already taken positions and are not likely to take the risk of going into any alliance. If that happens, it would mean they would not take that campaign down to the grassroots for fear of losing their own seats. Under the circumstance, the road is clear for APC to coast to victory in the 2027 elections.

The only thorn on APC’s road is Atiku Abubakar for two reasons. First is his political experience and political national exposure. His opportunity to have served as Vice President for eight years has equipped him with the knowledge in national party workings, while the Vice Presidential Position he held made him to know the running of Government at National Level, such that he can easily pin point any possible corner of Federal Operations.

Secondly, Atiku Abubakar and Tinubu were both political disciples of Late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, a political strategist from Katsina State, a far north state as they were tagged during the SDP, NRC days as political parties in late eighties and early nineties and went down south to the coastal state of Lagos and defeated Lateef Jakande better known as Baba Kakane, a former Governor of Lagos State under UPN of Second Republic in an SDP Presidential Primaries. That is why any statement from Atiku is taken seriously by the President and the Presidency because they know what he can do as both Tinubu and Atiku leant from the same political school of thought. That may also be the reason why Atiku doesn’t appear to fear Tinubu in the contest despite the incumbency factor and the APC dominance in the present day Nigerian Political Scene. Additionally, the ADC is alleged to have lacked candidates for elective position in some states.

It, however, remained to be seen as to what might be the election result particularly that of the President. On the surface, one can hardly contemplate that the Tinubu APC can lose at the polls, but we can at the same time not dismiss the Atiku impact in case of any turn of events on the 2027 elections.
