Katsina State citizens have expressed confidence in the ADC to return the petrol subsidy era in the country as recently announced by the party’s Presidential flag bearer and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
This came during a Hausa phone-in programme in a Ray Power Radio and Television Katsina station which hosted Hon Surajo Aminu-Makera, a chieftain of the ADC in the state.
He stated that withdrawing the oil subsidy was hastily announced by President Tinubu during his inauguration in May 2023.
Aminu Makera remarked that a critical decision such the Petroleum subsidy removal in Nigeria needs careful study and consultations with critical stakeholders before an action could be taken, the decision taken in 2023 has caused Nigerians untold hardships, he asserted.
The former General Manager of the Katsina State Transport Authority and now a leading opposition figure in the nation's political space also questioned the impact of President Tinubu’s response to defend the ADC's Atiku over achievements recorded under the subsidy removal.
"The President ended up telling Nigerians that the 36 state governments always receive 48 per cent of accrued revenue from the subsidy removal without telling us what his administration at the federal level does with its 52 per cent accrueable from the same funds.
"He should allow us query our governors on how they manage our resources at the state level but he should tell us, Nigerians how he manages our resources too."
While talking about the current political situation in the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon Surajo Aminu-Makera pointed out that the ADC is the only opposition political party as it is the only one that has fielded candidates to all elective positions throughout the country from presidential to governorship to national and state assembly positions.
Also while speaking on security, the politician who recalled recent visit to President Tinubu by Catholic priests who told him of the difficulties Nigerians are facing and how the president shielded his administration, questioned, how can someone who does not believe in the situation find solutions to it.
He advised Nigerians to vote wisely in the coming 2027 elections by voting out the APC for the ADC which will provide good governance.
Callers to the programme commended the ADC and its stalwart for keeping opposition alive and refusing to allow all forms of distractions as it prepares to unseat the current APC led government at all levels.
