The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man over an alleged attempted ritual-related offence at the General Hospital in Funtua.

The command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Sagir Muntari, was arrested following a report by the Chief Security Officer of the hospital on May 9, 2026.

The police said a hospital staff member had alerted the security officer after noticing the suspect wandering suspiciously within the hospital premises at about 4:20 p.m.

The statement added that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he entered the hospital with the intention of obtaining the womb of a newborn baby for alleged spiritual and criminal charm-related activities.

The command said investigations into the matter were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar Fage, warned against all forms of criminal and ritual-related activities, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives, healthcare facilities and public institutions across the state.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
